Saudi Arabia’s vision 2030 is causing the startups ecosystem to boom. This means a high change of funding opportunities and moving the direction towards technology and digital innovation. The core of many of these rising startups is mobile applications.

These mobile apps could be for fintech products, a platform for booking services, and many more. Developing an app as a startup in Saudi Arabia demands much more than coding skills. In fact, it needs a well-thought-out strategy that aligns with its local market needs.

In this blog post, we’ll cover a few important points for Saudi startups that are looking to build mobile apps that are competitive, appealing, functional, and growth ready.

1. Problem-solution

Before starting the development and writing a single line of code. An important question should be asked, what problem does the app solve? What problems does the Saudi users have?

For example, at Intcore, we research local problems to understand what kind of problems they encounter, what products or services do they need, and what features will add value to their life.

Then a minimum viable product (MVP) should always be the second step to do. Launch a very basic version of the app that contains the core features to test it, get feedback, and make the necessary changes.

Saudi investors value customer-centric startups that caters to their needs.

2. Always keep Saudi users in mind

It’s important for Saudi startups to understand that all countries and all different markets have different unique preferences and certain expectations when it comes to mobile apps.

The same concept applies to Saudi users so Saudi startups should understand their market’s expectations

  • Arabic-First Interface: Your app must support Arabic, including right-to-left design. A bonus point would be adapting to regional dialects because it makes them able to relate to the app and feel presented in it.

  • User Experience (UX): Focus on clean design, an easy, and simple user experience to retain users.

  • Privacy is a very important aspect to consider for users of mobile apps. Also, control is important.

A user should be allowed to manage visibility, control notifications, and hide sensitive information when needed.  When users feel obligated to share information and feel the app is in control, they are more likely to bounce-off the app

4. Integrate Local Payment Gateways

An important point to consider if an app involves any kind of transactions is to offer trusted local payment options.

  • STC Pay, Mada, Apple Pay: These are commonly used in Saudi Arabia. Integrating them will build trust and reduce friction at checkout.
  • Cash on Delivery Option: Still important in certain industries like e-commerce or groceries.
  • Subscription Models: If the app offers recurring services, then also consider enabling subscriptions through the same local payment gateways.

6. Use Local Channels & Influencers

Launching your app isn’t just about the tech part, it’s also about awareness and downloads. Here are some approaches that can help Saudi startups in their marketing activities

  • Influencer Marketing: Saudi users respond well to trusted figures in their niche. Partner with local content creators on Snapchat, Instagram, or TikTok to promote your app.
  • Social Proof: Showcase testimonials, user reviews, and milestones to build trust and influence other users to try your app.
  • App Store Optimization (ASO): Make sure your app is easily searchable in Arabic and English with relevant keywords for the Saudi market.

7. Measure, Improve, and Scale

Once you launch, this is when the journey begins. It’s time for growth and optimization.

  • Track Behavior: Use analytics tools to monitor user engagement, retention, and drop-off points.
  • Use Feedback Loops: Encourage in-app feedback, reviews, and even focus groups to gather insights.
  • Scale Gradually

Building a mobile app as a Saudi startup is one of the most effective ways to scale and solve real challenges, but success doesn’t come from the idea alone. In fact, it comes from execution, understanding user behavior, and creating localized solutions that fit the Saudi lifestyle.
